A
native of the Washington, D.C., area, Ricky Showalter became seriously
interested in jazz studies while a student at North Carolina Wesleyan College.
After a year of playing in local rock and jazz bands, Ricky transferred
to Chicago's DePaul University School of Music, where he studied with Larry
Gray. With music degree in hand, he soon joined various Chicago bands.
As
the bassist for Liquid Soul from 1994 to 2003, Ricky toured throughout
the United States and Canada, plus Mexico, Germany, Japan and Turkey. He
performed on all four Liquid Soul CDs, including the Grammy-nominated "Here's
the Deal" on Shanachie Records.
Since
leaving Liquid Soul, Ricky has been gigging and touring with a variety
of bands and musicians, including Doña Oxford and Groover Washington.
He also teaches privately and does sessions for various DJs (most notably
DJ Lego) and occasional jingles.
Ricky
has been featured in Bass Frontiers magazine (Vol. 6 #5) as well as Bass
Player magazine's 10th anniversary issue (Jan. '99), which listed him as
one of the Top 10 Young Guns to watch for. (He is also featured in the
July 2000 issue.)
